Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say good-bye?

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd'had to miss the dance

Garth Brooks/The Dance

Gearing up

You've done it once before.

"Yes, but that didn't involve bringing someone back to life." he waited for their answer with impatience.

You wouldn't be bringing her back to life because she would not have died yet. You can be there, Philip, you can send her home.

He could send her home! He could be with her again! The thought made him dizzy with pleasure.

"You mean that I can bring her home with me?" Something in how they said it bothered him.

No son, we mean you can send her home. There will be only one light door there, and it will be for her alone. As it is, the evil ones have shut down nearly all the light doors that exist. We have managed to keep just a few open. We will do everything in our power to get you both through, but we cannot guarantee it. You must also not allow him to step into the light. If he does, his dark essence will mix with the light and it will destroy our land along with anyone who happens to be in the tunnel at the time.

Okay so there it was, all the cards on the table. Gee, if his old friends could just see him now. He could almost hear Jon, "What are you, NUTS? Phil Hartman saves the world and the universe as we know it - news at 7:00?" Phil couldn't help but stifle a laugh at the thought. Dennis would tell him (doing his best Dennis imitation) "Oh compadre, you've really let the old elevator fall a few floors, haven't you?" Let's see who else, oh yeah, how about Dave taking a line from NewsRadio: "Oh good, a plan." Or how about "you may know me from such films as "Hey I'm really scared shitless" or "Well it was good while it lasted". Okay enough of that, there's really no choice.

"Well, let's get going guys. I've got people to see and places to be." he joked. "Couldn't I at least just get one chuckle from you people just once?" he sighed.

Philip, one last thing, and heed it well because it might save your soul: it's in your blood, don't forget it.
