Beth felt the new "boss" feeling her up with his eyes and she tried to not look at him. They had only been in the training room for ten minutes and he had snapped at her twice. He definitely saw her as someone way beneath him. He was still staring at her as she took notes for him. Suddenly he stopped. "Tell me something, do you let your boss slip you a little something extra at the end of the day?" He asked her, smirking. She was shocked by what he said and stood up. "That is a disgusting thing to say." She said laying down the notebook. "This practice is over." She said heading for the door. He jumped in front of her. "Hey where are you going? The fun was just getting started." He said smiling. "I was just kidding with you, to see what you would say in such a situation." He said in explanation. She looked at him, trying to figure out if he was joking or not. He seemed more jovial and she decided he was just testing her. He seemed so professional it had to be a test.
Things went okay over the next half-hour...until she took some messages from the fake phone calls over to him and he patted her butt as she walked away. Beth turned to him. "I don't think that is appropriate in the workplace." She said glaring at him. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her to him. "Then how about after work then." He said as he checked her out. She tried to pull her wrist free but he held it extremely tight, she wasn't completely scared since all she had to do was scream and everyone would come running. But she was worried. "Hey! Let go of me or I'll report you." She said rudely to him. He held onto her and laughed as he grabbed her other hand. "Oh C'mon, don't tell me you don't pleasure your boss, I've seen the way you two look at each other, there is something definitely going on. Share the wealth as I say." He said smugly.
Suddenly the door flew open. Beth was relieved to see that it was Dave. A look of anger flashed on his face when he saw what that pervert was trying to do. "You have about one second to let go of her." He said loudly as he approached them. A few other people outside the door gathered to see what was going on. When the pervert saw that people were watching him, He glared at Beth before pushing her toward Dave. Dave caught her as the guy waltzed out. Dave glared after him as he left. "Beth are you okay?" He asked looking at her. "I'm okay." She said as she rubbed her wrists. "But I was worried for a moment there." She said letting him hold her as she tried to regain herself. "Well don't you worry I plan on reporting him to someone in charge here, can you imagine him trying something like that at a place like this?" He said rubbing her arms. "He is probably a sex addict or something." She said trying to figure him out. He looked at her again. "Are you sure you're okay?" He said giving her a concerned look. "Yeah, I'm fine. But how did you know what was going on?" She asked just realizing he knew. "Angie, his receptionist. She told me some of the horrible things he's done to her and I was worried he'd try something with you as well." She smiled at him. "You were worried about me?" He looked at her with surprise. "Sure I was. I care about you Beth. I would never want anything bad to happen to you." She looked at him and smiled. "Thanks Dave, that means a lot to me." He patted her back. "Let's go report him then. I have some business that needs to be taken care of."
"That is good to hear, Mr. James." Dave said into the phone. Beth stood with Angie as they waited for him to finish. "Okay, thanks. We'll see you soon." He said as he hung up. He turned to the two of them. "Good news." He said handing Angie a piece of paper. "Report to this address when you get back and they will have a job waiting for you. I'm sure this will pay much better and you won't have to worry about bad bosses." He said giving her a reassuring nod. She took the piece of paper and looked at it before hugging him. "Thank you Mr. Nelson. You don't know what this means to me." She said happily. She then turned to Beth and hugged her. "You are so lucky to have him as your boss, and I wish you both all the happiness in your relationship." She rushed off before they could even say anything. "That's the second person today who has said that about us." She said glancing at Dave. He looked over at her quickly. "Who else mentioned it?" "Oh just that pervert you had thrown out." She said waving her hand to show it didn't count for much. She held up the packet to him. "Your turn."
By the time they got back to the room they were exhausted. It hadn't helped that they stayed up drinking the first night they were there. They both plopped down on the bed. Dave looked over at her. "Know what would be great right about now?" She gave him a curious glance. "What?" "A nice big pizza." He said sitting up. "Let's order one and eat it here, we can watch some classic movie on TV and have a nice relaxing evening." She nodded her head. "Sounds good to me."
Beth threw down the crust to the last piece of pizza she ate. "I can't eat another bite." She moaned. Dave agreed with her. "I'm finished too." He said closing the pizza box. He sat down on the bed and rested up against the pillows at the headboard and she joined him. After they found a good movie Beth rested her head on his shoulder. After a while their closeness kept her attention off the movie and more toward how warm and cozy Dave was. He had come to her aid that night and seemed so worried about her. They had grown a bond over the last five years together. And it wasn't until that night that she realized how lucky she was to have him as her boss. "Dave. In case I never told you…I think you're a great boss and a good friend." He looked over at her. "Where did this come from?" He said surprised by her comment. "I guess it was after I found out what it was like to be with a rotten boss." He rolled his eyes. "So it took that happening to open your eyes." He said playfully. "Well you don't know my dark side." He added with a fake ominous laugh. She smiled at him. "And what would that be?" He had her lean close so he could whisper it in her ear. But instead of telling her anything, he began to tickle her. Immediately she fell back onto the bed laughing. "Dave..I can't bear to be tickled." She squealed. "That's what I thought." He said continuing on. After a few moments passed he realized that somehow he had ended up practically on top of her and when he felt a flicker of passion inside he abruptly stopped. Beth must have been feeling the same way because she just laid there looking up at him. Before he could stop himself he leaned down and planted a warm kiss on her lips. When he looked down at her she touched her mouth with her fingers in complete surprise. Dave half expected her to slap him, but instead she reached a hand around his neck and pulled him down onto her mouth again. Their lips met again and he and kissed her openly, passionately. A moan of pleasure escaped her and That was all it took for him to snap out of what he was doing and whom he was doing it with. He pulled away from her and sat back as far from her as he could.
Beth lay still for a moment before sitting up. "What just happened?" She asked him longing for him to continue kissing her. "I have no idea." He said running a hand through his hair. "It must be like what happened to me and Bill that one time when he took me to that luncheon." She said desperate to explain away what happened. He nodded his head. "Yeah, you're probably right." He remembered that day so clearly, he had watched her walk by in that blue dress and thought she looked sexy, just the same as all the other men had. And he certainly didn't need that image running through his head right now. They gave each other uncomfortable looks before Beth got up. "I'm going to go for a walk." She said pushing her hair out of her face. Dave nodded. "Will you be okay?" He asked her hoping he hadn't ruined their friendship by kissing her. She turned toward him. "Yeah, I'll be fine. I won't be gone long." She said quickly, glad to get away. He didn't say another word as she left the room. After she was gone he called the front desk to check and make sure there wasn't another room available that night. When he found out there wasn't he considered going back home instead.
