I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
you
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

Robert Smith/The Cure/Just Like Heaven

A Grave Proposal

He spent days, possibly weeks just sitting there talking to her and gathering strength. He didn't know what he was going to do but he knew he would need to be as ready as possible if he was to confront Simon again. Suddenly his meditation was disturbed by some all-too-familiar voices in his head.

Philip, come home, please you must listen to us.

Phil didn't answer. In truth, he felt like he was now on his own in this, they were of no help to him. Besides, he held nothing but disdain for them. They brought this carnage on themselves, why should he be the one to bail them out now?

Oh Philip, do not do this. If you try to do what you are planning you will fail. Brute force cannot destroy him. You must trick him. You must not let your anger guide you, it will fog your thinking and he will win.

He sat there unmoving, wishing he could get another channel besides the one playing in his head.

"I know he has weaknesses, I have felt his fear too. I know he must have flaws"

He is not as afraid of you as you think, don't deceive yourself into thinking this. He is afraid of what you represent. You have the power to defeat him and he knows it, but not in the way that you are thinking.

"Look, can you people PLEASE give me a straight answer? I mean, just tell me what I am supposed to do to get rid of him once and for all." Phil was not in the mood to play mind games with them anymore.

We cannot tell you, you are the one who must figure it out. You must understand, you are the positive to his negative, the light to his dark, all things opposite. And you cannot coexist for long. Think of this: the first time you encountered each other, what happened?

Phil thought for a moment. "The temperature rose and set things on fire."

Correct! This is because positive and negative cannot occupy the same space for long. You believe that he ran from you under the sundial because he feared your strength, but he ran because he knew the consequences of staying any longer.

"Which would have been?" he asked

Again, we say positive and negative cannot coexist. Light and dark cannot coexist without one of them being extinguised by the other. Just as the sun rises and the moon must give way, so it is with your soul and Simon's lack of one.

We cannot offer anything more than that.

"Okay fine, so now how do I find him again?" Phil was becoming more tense as the moments went by.

You must lay a trap, bait him.

"How am I supposed to do that? He already has the one thing he wanted over all else…"

Does he? Does he really?

"Of course he does, you know he took her soul. He made me watch as she faded to grey. If you had only told me that she was about to die this never would have happened!" he felt his anger rise, he needed to make them take the responsibility for the loss of so many good souls.

You are of course correct. But it was meant to be. Just as everything in your life was meant to be. However, just as there exists free will on earth there also exists the ability to make things right here.

Would you like to right it? For all of our sakes?

The meaning behind their words hit him hard. So hard he had to sit down.

"Are you saying what I think you are saying?" he asked out loud this time, "Can this really be done?"
